Please share a little bit about yourself. What are some things you really enjoy doing?
I enjoy getting away from the hectic aspect of life and greatly enjoy being physically and mentally active. The northwest has provided new opportunities to learn new skills, meet a different crowd, create great memories and experience unbelievably beautiful places. I have found an inner peace especially while in the mountains, a peace that has provided a much needed balance between work and home. I find I give most of my energy to my patients during the week with little left over for myself at the end of the day. The aspects of mountaineering that I enjoy the most are the self reliance, accomplishment and teamwork. I thought I was at a disadvantage of starting mountaineering at a later age of 43, but I find the introspection and patience from being a little older has served me well in the mountains. Initially inspired by Jeanne Stawiecki’s amazing accomplishments after a late start to climbing, I signed up for the Washington Alpine Club’s basic mountaineering course and not only graduated but became an instructor as well. I also have an insatiable appetite for learning and prefer to read books in paper (as opposed to electronic) about mostly mountaineering and philosophy – at least right now.

Have any favorite athletic activities?
Trail running, cycling, hiking, climbing. I used to play soccer but find I can’t fit in everything, so I focus on what it takes to do well in the mountains as much as possible.
